What is a Bowser?

The official definition for a Bowser is ‘a tanker used for fuelling aircraft and other vehicles or for supplying water’. Most people refer to Bowsers as Tankers. The origin of the word Bowser originates from Sylvanus Bowser who is held accountable for inventing the auto mobile fuel pump.

The two most popular types of Bowsers are Fuel bowsers and Water Bowsers, but Bowser have also been noted to transport other types of liquid such as dangerous goods to nuclear plants.

What is a Fuel Bowser?

There is no official label for fuel bowser but they are commonly known as portable tanks used to transport dangerous goods often by larger vehicles such as vans.

There is often a lot of speculation on whether you need certain licenses and permissions to take a Fuel Bowser on the road. According to Trailer Engineering a good fuel bowser will have some guidelines they follow in order for them to be deemed safe and usable:

  • Double skinned
  • Roadworthy
  • Have usable wheels to help transport to remote locations

Why our fuel bowsers used?

Fuel bowsers are extremely convenient to transfer liquid from one point to another. They can be moved around freely due to the shape and their wheels. A lot of the time they are transporting dangerous or corrosive liquids so bowsers also contain this liquid in a safe and secure way. They are manufactured with the best steel and have to comply with industry standards.
