What Is plant Hire?

Plant hire is a service provided to companies and individuals that allows them to hire machinery, equipment, and tools for any projects they may need them for.

Hiring plant machinery means temporarily hiring a piece of machinery from a company. There are various different types of machinery that can be hired.

What Is a plant Hire Company?

A company that specialises in hiring equipment and tools to other companies for things like construction projects. While it may be common to be able to hire small tools from certain companies, a plant hire company will have a wider selection of machinery and equipment and be able to tailor their services for the client’s need.

For example, a company that practices exclusively in equipment hire will have a larger choice of machinery to suit different jobs. Whereas a company that just rents small tools won’t have these types of machines available, let alone a selection of them.

Here at Vertikal UK, we are a plant hire company offering a wide range of equipment, tools and machinery for hire. We offer excavators, dumpers and forklifts for hire and much more!

What does plant hire mean?

Plant Hire is when you hire equipment for a specific job or task. It is mostly used in industries such as construction, agriculture, and in warehouses.

The term covers a wide range of different types of machines, meaning machinery and equipment that isn’t just operated by hand.

Here are a few examples of different types of equipment that fall under plant hire:

  • Excavators
  • Dumpers
  • Forklifts
  • Drum Rollers
  • Telehandlers

Why is it called plant hire?

Unfortunately, there is no definitive answer as to why it’s called this. There are multiple different explanations with some seeming more credible than others.

Some people will say that the term plant hire comes from the use of the word plant to describe factories e.g., Car Manufacturing Plants and that this type of equipment would be used in said plants.

Another theory comes from the meaning of the word plant. If we go back in time it is derived from the word ‘plantare’, which means to plant something into the ground. It is assumed that plant hire equipment has taken this name as it tends to be fixed in place/planted when it is being used.

While there is no absolute answer to this question, the term has become synonymous with hiring machinery and equipment.

How Much is plant hire?

The cost of hiring services can vary depending on a few factors

  • The type of machinery you need
  • How long do you need the machinery for
  • Are you hiring it over the weekend
  • Where does the machinery need to be delivered to
  • What type of job do you need the equipment for
  • Do you need specific/extra attachments for the equipment
  • The size of the machinery you are hiring
  • Is there a minimum hire period

All of these are taken into consideration when pricing up the overall cost. It is also worth noting that it often works out cheaper to hire equipment over a longer period than it is to hire it day per day.

Larger machines will usually cost more to hire than smaller ones. For example, a mini excavator will be cheaper to hire than a full-sized excavator.

Overall, hiring is a much cheaper option than buying the equipment yourself. To learn more about our plant hire services here at Vertikal, as well as the overall cost, please contact our team who will be happy to assist you.

why Choose Plant Hire?

Using a service like plant hire has a wide range of benefits for a project rather than buying this type of equipment.

More cost-effective

This type of machinery is expensive to buy outright. Let’s take forklifts as an example. They can cost anywhere between £3000 to £30,000.  This is a high expense for something you may not need as a permanent fixture on your job site. Hiring allows you to have access to the equipment you need, for a fraction of the cost for the exact amount of time you need it for.

Convenient solution

Hiring over purchasing removes the hassle and cost of long-term storage for large pieces of equipment. Not only that, but plant hire services include regular inspections and quality control on the equipment that you hire. Meaning you won’t have to pay for expensive services and repairs.

The right tool for the job

Plant hire gives you a wide choice of different options. Meaning the service can be tailored to meet your exact specifications. For example, you might need a dumper with a particular carry load for the project you are working on, or a mini excavator rather than a full-sized excavator. Plant hire gives you more options for completing your job in the most efficient way possible.
